About Me

I’m Dr Emma Kirkby-Geddes, a Chartered Psychologist and HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist with over 15 years’ experience working with people whose lives have been affected by illness, injury, or ongoing health difficulties.
I work with adults who are living with long-term health conditions, chronic pain, anxiety, low mood, and the psychological impact of major life changes. Much of my work focuses on helping people adjust to changes in health, identity, and everyday functioning, including the sense of loss or uncertainty that can follow illness or injury.
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to you. I aim to create a safe, supportive space where we can make sense of what’s been difficult and find ways forward that feel realistic and meaningful for your life.
I use evidence-based psychological therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps people build emotional resilience, develop greater self-understanding, and reconnect with what matters to them. I also draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing where helpful, particularly when supporting behaviour change and coping with ongoing health challenges.
Alongside my clinical work with individuals, I have extensive experience working within multidisciplinary teams and alongside case managers, and I take a holistic view of psychological wellbeing, recognising the close links between physical health, emotional wellbeing, and social context.
I work in person and online, offering flexible appointments from my practice in Holmfirth.
Qualifications:
Before training as a psychologist, I worked in public relations within arts and cultural organisations. I later retrained in psychology while raising my two children, and this lived experience has strongly shaped the way I work — practical, grounded, and respectful of the realities of everyday life.
I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly undertake further training to ensure my work remains current and evidence-based. I also receive regular clinical supervision, including from senior psychologists with extensive experience in healthcare and complex clinical work.
