About Me
I have over 15 years experience of working as a therapist with people who have experienced life changing injury, including traumatic brain injury. My work has also included supporting family members to adjust to the impact of life changing injury on their loved one.
I specialise in helping clients with adjusting to the cognitive and physical changes that injury brings. Often too, there are issues of loss/bereavement, loneliness and challenges to personal identity.
I am trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and I find ACT is an effective tool for working with clients. ACT builds the skills of emotional regulation and insight needed to adapt to life changing injury. I also draw on my training in CBT and as a Health Psychologist to support behaviour change, using techniques such as Motivational Interviewing.
I have many years of experience of working effectively with Case Managers and as part of clinical MDTs. I also offer supervision and training to Support Workers. I find that taking an holistic approach is key to the best outcomes for the client.
Qualifications:
I am registered with the Health Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist, having gained my Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology via the British Psychological Society’s independent route. I also have a MSc in Health Psychology and a PhD in positive psychology and well-being from Sheffield Hallam University.
I came to psychology as a career in my 30s and studied whilst bringing up my two children, having started my working life in public relations in art galleries and museums.
I am committed to continued professional development and as such take regular training opportunities to ensure that my skills are relevant, and evidence based.
I also have clinical supervision every month and more frequently should the case require it. My supervisors include an experienced Practitioner Psychologist (Chartered Health Psychologist) and a Clinical Neuropsychologist. Both have many years of experience working in the medico-legal field.
